I have a 2006 toyota tacoma with a V-6 engine, I am coming up on the first oil change, and I was wondering if this synthetic oil is worth my money. Toyota says that you should only have to change the oil every 5000 miles with their cars. I have always been a 3000 mile guy, but I am thinking of trying the synthetic oil. What is the best synthetic motor oil to use? Is it worth the money?
It is not recommended to use synthetics on engines with less than 75,000 miles. The conventional oils flow easier in engines with less wear on them. Consult your owners manual it will tell you at what mileage to switch to a synthetic. What is the best synthetic motor oil to use? Is it worth the money?
Royal purple . red line. .Amsoil Report Abuse
No one knows what the best oil to use is...that is a matter of opinion. I like Pennzoil while the guy above me prefers Valvoline. It is definitely worth the money though. You said yourself that you change your oil (or have it changed) on a 3,000 mile interval so I probably don't need to go into the importance of oil and preventing wear on your engine.
All, Top Quality Synthetic Oils, are the same. They help Gas Mileage, and Performance. They are worth the money in newer cars like yours.
i have been using Mobil one for a long time now,and in my opinion its seems to be the best,i have put it through a lot of roughness pulling cars and things with my truck ,but it holds up super good, and yes its worth the money i actually started getting a little better mileage with it,when i started using it,and my truck seems to start a lot better in colder weather also, plus i have noticed it running a lot cooler ,there's a lot of benefits to using it,it is worth what is cost,i change mine about every 8 or 9 thousand miles, and that sounds high, but its not,the oil is till in good shape when i drain it,you can check in to it,but for the money Mobil one is the best there is,good luck hope this helps.
if the other oil that you have been using have been working well, then go buy the rule';if it ain't broke, don't fix it';,that will save you some serious money that you are going to need for the gas.
Royal Purple is one of the best synthetic oils, followed by Mobil-1.
If you use synthetic, you can usually extend the milage between changes, due to synthetics ability to withstand oil breakdown for a longer period.
I do mine every 7,500 miles, and I will only use Napa Gold filters (or Wix, same thing).
For regular oil, I only use Valvoline.
If you tow,run offroad a lot,or drive in heavy stop andgo traffic a lot, or drive at high speeds for long periods of time (90mph for 1 hr or more) Then a synthetic might be worth the expense.
In my opinion, the best synthetic motor oil is Mobil 1.If you use that, there should be no problem with going 5000 miles between oil changes. But, if you feel like you still want to do an oil change every 3000 miles then consider Castrol SyntecBlend. It's not as expensive, especially if you buy it when it's on sale, and it's an excellent 2nd choice.
Most new vehicles are coming out with the oil being changed every 5k miles. I would suggest synthetic oil because it doesn't break down until after 5,000 miles. As conventional motor oil breaks down after 3,000 miles. Synthetic gives you a little better fuel economy and increases motor life. Just make sure that you use a good premium oil filter. Also make sure that you don't change your oil until after the break in period.
Mobile One is the best but as long as you change your oil as Toyota says, it's just a waist of money.
Valvoline. If you get your oil changed at the local shop, most of the time you will see that Valvoline is more expensive than the other brands. Its good oil, I wouldnt try anything elce.
I am unaware of recent synthetic oils, but I would not recommend them. I had a Pontiac Transam and decided to treat it to a thicker synthetic oil to increase its life. It ended up destroying the engine. I am not sure whether it is the oil, or the engine, but I believe it was the oil. Lastly, try to serve your Tacoma with excellent care because Toyotas deserve the attention for their excellent reliability. Use normal oil every 3000 miles.
