Stain Removal
Got a stain? Getting it out may be easier than you think - if you use the right techniques.
鈥?Act quickly to remove stains.
鈥?Remove as much stain as possible by brushing or scraping. Do not rub.
鈥?Pretest fabrics before using any stain remover, especially colored fabrics.
鈥?Never use hot water on stains; it will set them.
鈥?When using cleaning agents, follow instructions; use rubber gloves and avoid directly breathing harmful chemicals.
鈥?Work on glass or a surface that will not be damaged by cleaning agents.
鈥?Do not use alcohol on acrylic, acetate or triacetate fabrics.
鈥?Do not use vinegar on cotton/linen.
鈥?Do not use ammonia or enzyme products on wool/silk.
鈥?Do not use soak products on wool/silk.
鈥?For best results, place stained areas face down on paper towels - preferably white - and apply stain remove to the underside of the stain.
鈥?Soaking may help loosen old stains.
鈥?When in doubt, have the stain treated by a professional dry cleaner.
Stain Removers:
Here are some effective ways to remove common stains. Follow with your regular washing procedure unless otherwise noted:
鈥?Alcoholic beverages: Immediately flush or sponge stains with cold water, then soak in detergent and cool water. For red wine, use a pretreat product or a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Blood: Cover area with meat tenderizer and apply warm water to make a paste. Wait 15-30 minutes and then sponge with cool water or soak using an enzyme soak product. Use diluted chlorine bleach for whites or bleach powder for colored fabrics, if necessary.
鈥?Coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa: Soak in warm water or cold water. An enzyme soak product may help. Brush area vigorously with a paste of detergent and hot water. Remove grease stains with a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Crayon and candle wax: Scrape off excess wax with a dull knife and sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Cream, milk, ice cream, dairy: Sponge with a safe dry cleaning agent. If needed, follow procedure for chocolate or fruit stains.
鈥?Deodorant: For light stains, treat with your regular laundry detergent. For heavier stains, treat with a safe dry cleaning solvent. Wash with the warmest water safe for the stained fabric.
鈥?Fat, grease, oil: Sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent or try treating with a liquid detergent.
鈥?Food stains: Sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent. If necessary, use diluted bleach for whites or bleach powder for fabrics. For severe or older stains, soak in warm water for several hours with a detergent or an enzyme soak product.
鈥?Fruits, non-green vegetable, mildew: Soak in warm or cold water with a detergent and wash as usual. For difficult stains, cover area with bleach powder and apply a few drops of hot water to make a paste. Add a few drops of ammonia after checking for fabric resistance. Wait 15-30 minutes and wash as usual.
鈥?Grass, green vegetables: Soak in warm or cold water, or sponge with denatured alcohol after checking colorfastedness of fabric. Wash at an appropriate temperature with bleach safe for the stained fabric. For acetate, try sponging with a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Gum: Rub hardened chewing gum with an ice cube. Scrape off excess and sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Ink or ballpoint: Sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent. Brush with a detergent paste and ammonia water if safe for fabric. On colorfast fabrics, try wetting with hair spray or rubbing alcohol and blotting. India ink and other indelible inks are practically impossible to remove completely.
鈥?Lipstick, cosmetics: Light stains may be removed by using a pretreat product or liquid detergent with careful rubbing. For most stains, it is best to use a professional dry cleaner.
鈥?Motor oil, tar: Remove excess by blotting with paper towels or scraping off. Use a safe dry cleaning solvent and pretreat area with a liquid detergent.
鈥?Mud: Scrape off excess. Apply pretreat detergent, wash in cold water and then in warm water. For red mud or mud that may contain iron, try rust removal methods. Non-chlorine bleach may be used.
鈥?Nail polish: Place stained area face down on paper towel. Sponge with nail polish remover if fabric is acetone resistant or a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Paint: Scrape off fresh paint and sponge with a safe dry cleaning solvent.
鈥?Perspiration, diaper soil: Soak in warm water with an enzyme soak product. Wash in warmest water safe for stained fabric. If the stain remains, dampen and sprinkle with meat tenderizer. Let stand 30 minutes to one hour. Treat with a safe dry cleaning solvent, rub detergent on stain and rewash.
鈥?Rust, iron: Use rust remover and follow package directions. If bleaching is necessary, only use non-chlorine bleach powder.
鈥?Scorch: Bleach with diluted chlorine bleach. For colored fabrics, use a bleach powder.

(This one lets you match the type of the stain to the type of fabric and suggests the best removal method)
One thing I have done is immediately (or as soon as possible):
1) blot stain and rinse in cold water
2) rub Dawn dish liquid into the stain and rinse again
3) dot with more Dawn and Shout spot remover
4) wash in cold water. I add color safe powder bleach and plenty of laundry detergent. Fill and let aggitate for two minutes (or so). Turn off machine and let soad for 4 hours then complete cycle.
5) check stain. If not gone, DO NOT DRY (you already know that)
6) Repeat washing, trying different method of stain removal attempt if this did not work. Sometimes it takes a few attempts.
I hope something works for you. I hate losing perfectly good clothing to stains. What can I use to get motor oil out of a sweatshirt?
Natural Degreaser:- (theory, Like dissolves Like)
* Rub Orange Oil or Eucalyptus Oil onto the stained area let stand for 15 minutes (it will freshen the set in oil stain), then launder with a general laundry detergent in warm water followed by two warm rinses.
* Cleans and freshens up your garments.
Good Luck!
Well bleach and an act of god both sound promising, but neither are 100% reliable.
A new shirt will work. But some sort of concoction of different cleaners mixed together might do it. Or hell just take a pair of scissors and cut out the stain. If anyone asks about the hole, say: ';what hole?';
Dawn Dish Soap, Let it set on the dried/damp shirt overnight and just put it on the spots, then wash normally the next day with the same Dawn Soap, it should cut the stain profoundly, if not clearing it up totally.
Try a bar soap called FELS-NAPTHA, it is in the laundry detergent isle at grocery stores. This stuff is awesome, it will even take out set in stains that are several years old!
Buy the same shirt again.
Why waste your life cleaning it, when you can have it new for the same money you'd have to spend to get it fixed up.

Dawn dish detergent will get the oil part out...as far as a stain, I would go with shout that has sat on the shirt (wet) for at least a day and then try washing it again.
If I were you, I would use your sweatshirt to work on your car from now on. Better buy a new one to wear in public.
pretty much the only ything that will do that is bleach. or an act of god.
try a degreaser in a spray form, it should work if you haven't waited to long.
Shout and sunlight soap ... thats the only things i use when i get a nasty stain on my cloths
Shout!
It works really well.
ZEST!
oxy clean?
a new shirt perhaps.
baking soad or tide pen to go if it's a small stain
