What synthetic motor oil do I buy for my car?

I have a 2005 Subaru Forester XT. I'd like to buy the synthetic oil myself and have them change the oil at jiffy lube or whatever garage will do it. I've seen different kinds so I don't know which to get for my car, and how many quarts. Any advice would help. Thanks!What synthetic motor oil do I buy for my car?
It is a smart thing that you are looking into synthetic as your car is TURBO and they NEED synthetic.





But not ALL synthetic are the same. Mobil1 was the first synthetic and can hold up to turbo temperature. Since then Castrol (and other companies) started coming out with oil that didn't really qualify to Mobil1 standards. But for some reason Mobil1 lost a lawsuit and EVERYBODY started to say they have synthetic.





so in my book Mobil1 (and I heard AMSOIL) are the only true synthetic.

P.P.S. Castrol - GERMAN formula is the SAME kind of synthetic as Mobil1. You can find them here (from time to time) and cheaper than Mobil1.





P.P.P.S. The next guy writes about Semi-synth. I don't like semi-synth for turbo engine (no offense to the next guy). The reason synthetic oil are better is because they are pure engine oil. Conventional oil have lot of impurity that cooks with age. But semi-synth is like mixing pure water, with piss-water (you still have piss-water). I doubt Jiffy Lube is going to put oil you buy into your car. That kind of defeats the purpose of them selling you an oil change. Besides, they already offer Mobil 1 synthetic oil changes at a ridiculous price. You can go that route (Mobil 1 is one of the best)...or you can pick up Royal Purple (available through SummitRacing.com) and have an independent shop do it. To find out what grade of oil and how many quarts your engine takes, look under the hood for a label or sticker that should have that information.
Your car does not NEED synthetic oil. The manufacturer only requires that you change your engine oil with oil that is meeting the spec API SM, which most of the conventional oils on the shelves today meet. Mobil 1 is by far the most popular synthetic oil in the industry. They have been doing a good job by staying ahead. Stick with them. Your car holds 4.8qts
Go to any Firestone dealer..............they have a special (always) of an oil change with SEMI-SYNTHETIC at $18.00 or less........with FULL SYSTHETIC at $35.00 or less...........I've used SEMI-SYNTHETIC in my Jeep Liberty for 120,000 miles with Never a Problem.......
