The Sh@rk King say: that depends buddy!
I'mean, check your owners manual to verify if you can use indifferently synthetic or mineral oil, and follow the owners manual advices.
It's because some cars accept it and some cars not!
Finally, who knows more about your cars motor?, of course, the people who build it.
I hope this help, regards. Can I start using synthetic motor oil after having used regular oil for 4 years?
The only modern day car that you should not use synthetic in that I have heard of is a Mazda Wankel motor. Other than that every car from the early 90's on will get a positive benefit from a synthetic oil. Syn's flow better in high temperatures and low temperatures, they lubricate better, have better additive packages that last longer and breakdown much less than dino oil. Don't do the engine flush thing all you need to do is switch to a quality synthetic of the right viscosity and use a good quality filter. Do your first couple of oil and filter changes at about 3500 miles so that you can clean out any contaminants from your previous cheap oil. Then you can probably go to about 6500k - 7500k miles before changing it.Can I start using synthetic motor oil after having used regular oil for 4 years?
When using the older oil with the ';junk'; in it you get buildup of that junk. When you use the synthetic oil you may notice leaks.
Synthetic has alot of detergents in it and it will scrub you engine clean. You will need to do an oil change at or before the 3k mark yourself. What you want to do is turn the oil filter upside down on a pice of cardboard and let it sit an hour or so and look at what comes out or how much rather.
Oil leaks are not the wort things that can happen when all the old ';junk'; that has builted up in the cracks and crevices is cleand out. Oil presure and performance but nothting too serious.
If its not too old of a car your probably ok but more than 20 years old I would not.
Oh yes. For sure.
I switch my Civic to synthetic oil (bought used). It has been 4 years and no ill effect.

There's so much mystery with synthetic.
Synthetic oil is just oil - but just better quality. It will not harm your engine if you change it, use it, switch to it, switch from it, mix it, etc.
I've read extensive reports from valvoline website , mobil1 website, independent websites, etc. and basically they are just oil, but more pure,
There's lots of junk that gets through the fractional distillation process (regular oil) that will harm the engine. But the synthetic oil are MADE so there would be all the good stuff and none of the bad stuff.
But it (synthetic) is oil. It is not a substitute for oil. It is oil
Good Luck...
yes, I have used it in my cars and trucks after I bought them as I will not buy a brand new car or pickup from the show room.In my opinion it is just better oil.
Yes you can , but before you start using a new oil have your engine flushed out first ,so you start with a clean engine
Yes, you can switch to synthetic at any time.
Yes, synthetic is just a higher grade oil, but it works the same in your engine.
yes
