Is high mileage oil really any better for your car than regular motor oil?

I have a 2002 Neon that has 81,000 miles on it. Should I use high millage oil or is regular oil just fine when I get an oil change. The high mileage oil was more expensive so I was wondering if it really had any advantages.

Thanks. Is high mileage oil really any better for your car than regular motor oil?
There's no real advantage to you in using high-mileage oil.At 81000,your Neon's hardly started to wear in properly, and your seals and valves will benefit more from regular oil changes-[with filter]-than with any gimmicky high-cost oil that won't actually get to do it's job as your car hasn't DONE a high-mileage,and WON'T do ,prior to the next oil-change. Just keep the oil changed at recommended intervals, and make sure the filter is changed each time too,and your car will toddle along quite happily, sweetness. xxx

On your neon NO dont spend for the high milage oil. you should be using 5w30 motor oil so your engine isnt working as hard. if you are concerned for the high milage add a can or bottle of slick 50 or the equivalant on a fresh oil change. the product caots this really slippery film on all surfaces that were hot enough to bond it to the metal. 1 treatment should be good for around a year and would help extend the life of the engine. that is provided you recognise great grandpa doesnt run like he did as a teen.drive reasonable and she will thank you.
older the car gets not much any type is better than any other maybe want to use a heavier weight
If your car is using oil or has very low oil pressure the high mileage oil will help.Otherwise keep using what you have been using.
Depends, if your car is using oil between oil changes you could try high mileage oil. Its formulated to minimize oil burning, has additives to keep seals pliable, etc. If your engine is in good shape, stick with the oil you are using.
It depends on the type of higher mileage oil that you are referring to. If you are talking about synthetic, there are some large advantages, but some drawbacks as well. Drawback-Expense,drawback-cannot mix oils,drawback-not always readily available! Positive-Longer between changing,Positive-cleaner burning,Positive-Less sludge and better lube qualities. So now, Make your decision, based on the facts
